The Truth Behind Integrative Dry Needling

Updated: Nov 16, 2022

Is it RIGHT for you?

Integrative dry needling (IDN) is a modern physical therapy method that we use at Chardon Physical Therapy and despite its prickly reputation, the pros outweigh the cons when it comes to pain management.

What it is

This modern method of physical therapy helps ease muscle strain due to injury. Despite the use of needles, IDN is different than acupuncture. The needles are placed at different “trigger points” in the body that are causing pain. Containing no saline, they can remain in the body for 30 seconds to 30 minutes, depending on the level of therapy required. Manage your pain and improve flexibility with integrative dry needling therapy, which also helps with tissue restoration and accelerated healing

Is integrative dry needling right for me?

The best course of physical therapy treatment for you will depend on the location and severity of your injury. Medical history also plays a factor in deciding whether or not a hands-on treatment like IDN is ideal. However, it is an effective method of treatment for the following conditions, among others:

  • Tendonitis

  • Neck pain

  • Back pain

  • Shoulder pain

  • Torn ligaments

  • Muscle spasms

  • Headaches

  • Nerve injuries

Many patients experience an immediate sense of relief from their symptoms, while other bodies take up to a day to feel the same effects. Within a month of sessions, you could be fully healed, depending on the progression of your response to treatment.

Benefits of integrative dry needling

One advantage of IDN over other treatments is the replacement of injured muscle tissue with fresh muscle tissue. When soft tissue is stimulated by the needle, it initiates the self-healing process of the human body and begins reducing stress on the muscles right away.In addition to almost instant pain relief, this method can also be used before an injury occurs. As a preventative tool for athletes, integrative dry needling helps a body recover more quickly from collisions and acute injuries sustained during sports games.
