Shoulder Dislocation and Labrum Tear Physical Therapy in Chardon, OH

Your shoulder slipped out, and now you don't trust it.

It popped out during a game, a fall, or on the mat. Now it feels loose, clicks, or slips when you reach overhead or behind you. You hold back on throws, presses, and tackles because you're afraid it will happen again. Maybe an MRI showed a labrum tear and someone mentioned surgery.

You deserve a shoulder you can trust again, and a clear plan to get there.

We know how frustrating this is

Most of our clients come to us after other treatments didn't work. We know how discouraging it is to hurt, feel stuck, and not know who to trust. That's why the Doctors of Physical Therapy at Chardon Performance Therapy start by listening, until we understand your story and your goals.

We've helped thousands of active people regain confidence, strength, and control, even after other treatments didn't work.

Shoulder problems we treat

  • Shoulder dislocations and subluxations

  • Labrum tears (including SLAP and Bankart tears)

  • Loose or unstable shoulders and hypermobility

  • Clicking, catching, and pain with overhead movement

  • Rehab after labrum repair surgery

  • Return to contact sports, throwing, and lifting

How it works

1. Share your story. Your initial assessment is a 75-minute, one-on-one visit with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. We listen to your goals, your history, and what you've already tried, so we understand what truly matters to you.

2. Get a comprehensive care plan. We test shoulder strength and range of motion with VALD dynamometry, compare side to side, and check your shoulder blade control. Then we explain your options in clear, simple language, including whether a surgical consult makes sense.

3. Work with an accountable guide. Your follow-up sessions are a full hour, one-on-one. We use hands-on care, blood flow restriction (BFR) training when it fits, and a progressive strength and stability program built for your sport.

Surgery or no surgery?

It depends on your age, your sport, and how many times your shoulder has slipped. Many people do well with a focused strength and stability program. Young athletes in contact sports have a higher chance of dislocating again, and some do better with a repair. We'll help you understand your options and support you either way.

Don't stay stuck

If you wait, an unstable shoulder often slips again, and each time can cause more damage. Let's build a shoulder you can trust.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a doctor's referral for physical therapy in Ohio?
No. Ohio law lets you see a physical therapist directly, without a referral.

How long are the sessions?
Your initial assessment is 75 minutes. Follow-up sessions are 60 minutes, always one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy.

Do you take insurance?
We're out of network with all insurance companies. We accept HSA and FSA cards, and many clients are reimbursed through their out-of-network benefits. We'll walk you through your options on a quick call.

How long should I wear a sling?
Usually only for a short time after a dislocation, unless your surgeon says otherwise. Early, guided movement helps prevent stiffness.

When can I return to sport?
When your testing shows your shoulder strength and control are close to the other side and you can handle sport-specific drills with confidence, not just on a date.

When should I see a doctor instead?
Go to urgent care or the emergency room if your shoulder is still out of place, looks deformed, or you have numbness, tingling, or weakness in your arm or hand after an injury.
