Osteoporosis and Bone Density Physical Therapy in Chardon, OH

Your bone scan came back low. Now what?

Your DEXA scan showed osteopenia or osteoporosis. Now you're afraid to lift, bend, or carry the groceries. Someone told you to "be careful," and someone else told you to start lifting weights. You don't know what's safe, and you don't want to break a bone.

You deserve a clear, safe plan to get stronger, not a list of things to avoid.

We know how frustrating this is

Most of our clients come to us after other treatments didn't work. We know how discouraging it is to hurt, feel stuck, and not know who to trust. That's why the Doctors of Physical Therapy at Chardon Performance Therapy start by listening, until we understand your story and your goals.

We've helped thousands of active people regain confidence, strength, and control, even after other treatments didn't work.

What we help with

  • Osteopenia and osteoporosis

  • Safe strength training for bone health

  • Posture and upper back strength

  • Balance and fall prevention

  • Recovery after a fracture

  • Confidence lifting, bending, and carrying

How it works

1. Share your story. Your initial assessment is a 75-minute, one-on-one visit with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. We listen to your goals, your history, and what you've already tried, so we understand what truly matters to you.

2. Get a comprehensive care plan. We review your bone scan, test your strength and balance with VALD force plates and dynamometry, and explain what's safe for you in clear, simple language.

3. Work with an accountable guide. Your follow-up sessions are a full hour, one-on-one. We use hands-on manual therapy, dry needling, and a strength program built for your life and your sport. We stay invested in your progress and push you toward higher performance, not just symptom relief.

Our three-phase approach

1. Pain management. We ease any back or joint pain so you can train with confidence.

2. We move you. We teach you safe ways to lift, bend, and carry, and build your posture and balance.

3. You move you. You progress to heavier, supervised strength work, the kind research shows can build bone.

What the research says

In the LIFTMOR trial, women with low bone mass lifted heavy weights twice a week for 8 months under supervision. Their spine bone density rose 2.9%, while the home exercise group lost 1.2%, and the training was safe (Watson et al., 2018).

Physical therapy works alongside any medication your physician prescribes for bone health.

Don't stay stuck

If you wait, fear of moving leads to less activity, which means weaker muscles, weaker bones, and a higher risk of falling. Let's build you up instead.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a doctor's referral for physical therapy in Ohio?
No. Ohio law lets you see a physical therapist directly, without a referral.

How long are the sessions?
Your initial assessment is 75 minutes. Follow-up sessions are 60 minutes, always one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy.

Do you take insurance?
We're out of network with all insurance companies. We accept HSA and FSA cards, and many clients are reimbursed through their out-of-network benefits. We'll walk you through your options on a quick call.

Is lifting weights safe with osteoporosis?
For most people, yes, when it's supervised and progressed carefully. We start where you are and teach safe form before adding load.

Can exercise reverse osteoporosis?
Exercise can help maintain and even improve bone density in some people, and it strengthens the muscles and balance that prevent falls. Your physician manages any medication.

Do I need a bone scan first?
It helps. If you have a recent DEXA scan, bring the results to your first visit.

When should I see a doctor instead?
See a physician right away for sudden back pain after a minor lift or fall, pain in one spot on a bone, height loss, or a fall with an injury.
