Menopause and Perimenopause Physical Therapy in Chardon, OH

Menopause changed your body. It doesn't have to slow you down.

Your joints ache when you wake up. Your shoulder, hip, or Achilles hurts for no clear reason. Workouts that used to feel easy now leave you sore for days, and you're losing strength you worked hard to build. You've been told it's "just your age."

You deserve real answers and a plan to stay strong through every stage of life.

We know how frustrating this is

Most of our clients come to us after other treatments didn't work. We know how discouraging it is to hurt, feel stuck, and not know who to trust. That's why the Doctors of Physical Therapy at Chardon Performance Therapy start by listening, until we understand your story and your goals.

We've helped thousands of active people regain confidence, strength, and control, even after other treatments didn't work.

What we help women with

  • Joint aches and stiffness in perimenopause and menopause

  • Tendon pain in the shoulder, hip, elbow, and Achilles

  • Frozen shoulder

  • Loss of strength and muscle

  • Bone density and osteoporosis prevention

  • Back, hip, and core pain, including external pelvic and core work for return to sport

  • Getting back to lifting, running, golf, and pickleball

How it works

1. Share your story. Your initial assessment is a 75-minute, one-on-one visit with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. We listen to your goals, your history, and what you've already tried, so we understand what truly matters to you.

2. Get a comprehensive care plan. We test your strength with VALD force plates and dynamometry, look at how you move, and explain what's driving your pain in clear, simple language.

3. Work with an accountable guide. Your follow-up sessions are a full hour, one-on-one. We use hands-on manual therapy, dry needling, and a strength program built for your life and your sport. We stay invested in your progress and push you toward higher performance, not just symptom relief.

Our three-phase approach

1. Pain management. We calm sore joints and tendons with hands-on care and dry needling, so you can move again.

2. We move you. We guide you through mobility and movement your body can handle right now.

3. You move you. You build lasting strength with a progressive program you own, tracked in real numbers.

What the research says

About 70% of women have joint and muscle pain during perimenopause and menopause, and about 1 in 4 find it debilitating. Researchers named this the musculoskeletal syndrome of menopause in 2024 (Harvard Health).

Strength training is one of the most recommended tools to protect muscles, joints, and bones during this time. Physical therapy works well alongside hormone therapy from your medical provider. Read our guide to tendon pain in perimenopause.

Don't stay stuck

If you wait, aches lead to doing less, and doing less leads to losing strength and bone. You can break that cycle.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a doctor's referral for physical therapy in Ohio?
No. Ohio law lets you see a physical therapist directly, without a referral.

How long are the sessions?
Your initial assessment is 75 minutes. Follow-up sessions are 60 minutes, always one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy.

Do you take insurance?
We're out of network with all insurance companies. We accept HSA and FSA cards, and many clients are reimbursed through their out-of-network benefits. We'll walk you through your options on a quick call.

Do you offer pelvic floor therapy?
We provide external pelvic and core strengthening for return to sport. We are not internal pelvic floor therapists, and we'll refer you to one when you need it.

Can physical therapy replace hormone therapy?
No. They do different jobs. Hormone therapy is managed by your medical provider, and physical therapy builds the strength and mobility that keep you active. Many women do best with both.

Is heavy lifting safe for me?
For most women, yes, when it's progressed carefully and coached well. It's one of the best ways to protect your muscles and bones.

When should I see a doctor instead?
See a physician for a hot, red, swollen joint, a fever, unexplained weight loss, new numbness or weakness, or pain after a fall.
