Hamstring and Calf Strain Physical Therapy in Chardon, OH
You pulled a muscle. Now you want to know it won't happen again.
You felt a grab in the back of your thigh during a sprint, or a sharp pull in your calf on a lunge. Now walking feels off, running is out, and every time you think it's better, it tightens up again. You've been told to rest and stretch, but you're not sure when it's safe to go full speed.
You deserve more than baseline care. You deserve a provider you can trust, and results that actually last.

We know how frustrating this is
Most of our clients come to us after other treatments didn't work. We know how discouraging it is to hurt, feel stuck, and not know who to trust. That's why the Doctors of Physical Therapy at Chardon Performance Therapy start by listening, until we understand your story and your goals.
We've helped thousands of active people regain confidence, strength, and control, even after other treatments didn't work.

How it works
1. Share your story. Your initial assessment is a 75-minute, one-on-one visit with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. We listen to your goals, your history, and what you've already tried, so we understand what truly matters to you.
2. Get a comprehensive care plan. We find out which muscle is involved, how much it's been affected, and why it happened, then explain it in clear, simple language. We compare your legs side by side with VALD force plates and dynamometry, so your return to sport is based on real numbers, not just how it feels.
3. Work with an accountable guide. Your follow-up sessions are a full hour, one-on-one. We use hands-on manual therapy, dry needling, and a strength program built for your life and your sport. We stay invested in your progress and push you toward higher performance, not just symptom relief.
Why strains come back
Hamstring strains in particular have a high rate of coming back, often because athletes return before the muscle has its full strength back. Long periods of rest don't fix that. Research supports starting gentle loading early, then progressing to heavy strength work and full-speed running before you return. That's how we build your plan.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a doctor's referral for physical therapy in Ohio?
No. Ohio law lets you see a physical therapist directly, without a referral.
How long are the sessions?
Your initial assessment is 75 minutes. Follow-up sessions are 60 minutes, always one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy.
How long until my leg feels better?
In most cases, pain is gone within the first month, and often sooner. Plans of care average about 3 months, so you stay out of pain and come back stronger.
Do you take insurance?
We're out of network with all insurance companies. We accept HSA and FSA cards, and many clients are reimbursed through their out-of-network benefits. We'll walk you through your options on a quick call.
Should I stretch a pulled muscle?
Not aggressively at first. Gentle movement and early strength work usually help more than hard stretching. We'll show you what's right for your stage of healing.
When can I sprint again?
When your strength testing shows the injured side is close to the other side and you've progressed through faster running without pain. We'll guide you step by step.
When should I see a doctor instead?
If you felt a pop with large bruising and can't walk normally, have a calf that's swollen, warm, and tender without a clear injury, or have pain with shortness of breath, see a physician right away. A swollen, tender calf can be a sign of a blood clot.
