ACL Rehab and Return to Sport Testing in Chardon, OH
You tore your ACL. Now you want your game back, for good.
An ACL tear can take an entire season and shake your confidence in your knee. Maybe you've been told it's just time and a few exercises. Maybe you're months out from surgery and still don't trust your knee to cut, land, or sprint. Or maybe you're a parent trying to make sure your athlete comes back safely and doesn't get hurt again.
You deserve more than a calendar date. You deserve a provider you can trust, and a return to sport backed by real data.

We know how frustrating this is
ACL recovery is long, and it's easy to feel stuck, rushed, or unsure if you're ready. That's why the Doctors of Physical Therapy at Chardon Performance Therapy start by listening to your goals, your sport, and your timeline, and when it helps, to your surgeon and coaches.
We've helped thousands of active people, including athletes from across Geauga and Lake County, regain confidence, strength, and control.

How it works
1. Share your story. Your initial assessment is a 75-minute, one-on-one visit with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. We listen to your goals, your history, and what you've already tried, so we understand what truly matters to you.
2. Get a comprehensive care plan. We build your rehab around your surgery, your sport, and your season, explained in clear, simple language. We track strength and power with VALD force plates, dynamometry, and speed gates, and compare your injured leg to your healthy one, so every step forward is based on real numbers.
3. Work with an accountable guide. Your follow-up sessions are a full hour, one-on-one. We use hands-on care, blood flow restriction (BFR) training to build strength early, and a progression from walking to running, jumping, cutting, and full sport. We keep you, your surgeon, and your coaches informed so everyone knows the plan.
What to expect
ACL recovery takes time. Most athletes need at least 9 months after surgery before returning to cutting and pivoting sports, and research shows that rushing back raises the risk of another injury. We don't clear you by the calendar. You return when your testing shows your knee is strong, powerful, and ready, and we keep training you so you stay that way.

Evan N. ★★★★★
"From day one they let me know that they were not only going to help me recover, but that I would be stronger than before and have less risk of injury."

Don't stay stuck
If you wait, or rush back too soon, you risk a weak knee, a second injury, or a season lost to setbacks. You've already lost enough time. Let's make the comeback count.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a doctor's referral for physical therapy in Ohio?
No. Ohio law lets you see a physical therapist directly, without a referral.
How long are the sessions?
Your initial assessment is 75 minutes. Follow-up sessions are 60 minutes, always one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy.
When should I start physical therapy after ACL surgery?
As soon as your surgeon allows, usually within the first week or two. Starting PT before surgery helps too, because a stronger knee going in tends to recover faster.
Do you take insurance?
We're out of network with all insurance companies. We accept HSA and FSA cards, and many clients are reimbursed through their out-of-network benefits. We'll walk you through your options on a quick call.
How do you know when I'm ready to return to sport?
We test it. VALD force plate jumps, strength testing, and sport-specific movement tests show how your injured leg compares to your healthy one. We look for strong, balanced numbers and confident movement, not just a date on the calendar.
What is blood flow restriction (BFR) training?
BFR uses a cuff on the upper leg so you can build real strength with light weights. It's a great way to fight muscle loss early after surgery, when heavy lifting isn't safe yet.
When should I see a doctor instead?
If your knee gives out with a pop and swells quickly, locks and won't straighten, or after surgery you have increasing redness, drainage, fever, or calf pain and swelling, contact your surgeon or go to urgent care right away.
